Dr. Fred Simeone
Former Director of Cool Cars for Kids
After his graduation from the University of Pennsylvania and Mayo Clinic residency, Dr. Simeone joined the faculty of Harvard Medical School to practice neurosurgery. Later, he was recruited to the University of Pennsylvania, where he ultimately became a professor and an active practitioner for 40 years. During this time, he served the community and developed a referral practice while he was engaged in research. He ultimately edited nine neurosurgical books and wrote over 100 papers. Dr. Simeone's avocation was studying automotive history, with a particular interest in sports cars; this led to a collection that represents the best cars of the five major countries active in international sports car racing. He retired from neurosurgery in June 2008 to create a Foundation and museum where he managed its educational mission. Dr. Simeone (or Fred) opened his art to all and the doors to the Foundation Museum to car lovers from around the world to share his wonderful collection of iconic cars and racing vehicles. Although Dr. Fred Simeone is no longer with us, his passion and enthusiasm will be sorely missed, but his spirit lives on in all of the lives he impacted.
